About Our Office
The Technology
We’re pleased to provide what we consider the highest quality care through the use of state-of-the-art equipment, techniques, and procedures. Sophisticated tools help Dr. Johnessee and our team diagnose potential problems, communicate treatment needs, and plan effective therapy before extensive treatment is needed.
The following list contains a sample of the technology we employ:
-
CEREC: CEREC by Sirona Dental Systems fabricates custom dental restorations while you wait. With CEREC at the dentist's side, you’ll receive a permanent, all-ceramic crown, inlay, onlay, or veneer in a single office visit!
-
Curing Laser: Often, light is required to activate the hardening of filling material or bonding cements. Dr. Johnessee’s investment in a curing laser speeds treatment, increases comfort, and provides durable, esthetic restorations. We use the laser during certain teeth bleaching/whitening procedures, as well.
-
DIAGNOdent: As tooth structure changes over the years by exposure to fluoride, locating decay on X-rays becomes difficult. DIAGNOdent uses a laser light source to illuminate cavities and spotlight early-stage decay, including cavities between teeth. This technology identifies decay long before it is visible on an X-ray, which allows for conservative treatment that preserves more natural tooth structure.
-
Digital Photography & Imaging: Digital photography provides an unprecedented ability to communicate with the laboratory during fabrication of dental prosthetics. It also lets our team create smile previews. From recording initial findings to documenting results of an accident, we consider digital photography a great asset.
-
Digital Radiography: Digital X-rays emit up to 90% less radiation than traditional radiography. The images are immediately available to view on a computer monitor and can be electronically stored, enhanced, printed, and transmitted to insurance companies and specialists.
-
Intraoral Cameras: We use a small, hand-held camera the size of a pen to photograph the inside of your mouth during your exam. The enlarged images display on a color monitor to let you and Dr. Johnessee view them together. This gives you the opportunity to participate in your dental care and become an informed and educated patient.
-
Patient Education: Each treatment area contains educational DVDs that provide information about therapy options, oral diseases, postoperative care, and treatment methods.
-
Soft-Tissue Laser: The diode laser allows Dr. Johnessee to sculpt gum tissue for a more uniform appearance. He also uses the laser to quickly and comfortably remove small growths in the mouth, release muscle attachments, and treat gum disease.
-
ViziLite: This state-of-the-art oral cancer screening technology uses a special mouth rinse and light to detect abnormal mouth lesions that require additional follow-up. Oral cancer rates increase with age and peak between 60 and 70. The cure rate is 90% when caught early.
